HeyGen alternatives (2026) for SaaS product demo videos
By Stéphane Rathgeber · · 8 min
Synthesia is the closest HeyGen alternative with simpler budgeting, Colossyan the pick for training teams, DeepBrain AI Studios for the widest choice of avatars and Vyond for animation. None of them films your product: in a SaaS demo, someone still records the screens the avatar presents. If real footage of your live app is the point, a tool that films the product, like Redemo, does a different job.
HeyGen is the broadest AI avatar platform on the market: avatars from text, a photo or a short webcam clip, voice cloning, translation with lip-sync in 175+ languages, a screen recorder and a pay-as-you-go API. People look for alternatives for narrower reasons. The credit system makes the monthly output hard to predict, a training team wants features built for courses, a marketer wants animation or ad formats, or a SaaS team realises that what it needs on screen is its own product, not an avatar.
Below are the alternatives worth comparing, with plans and limits checked on each vendor’s own pages on October 13, 2026. Prices change often, so confirm on the vendor’s page before you buy. For the head-to-head between the two best-known names and a tool that films your product, see Redemo vs Synthesia vs HeyGen.
HeyGen in 2026, for reference
The free plan allows three videos a month of up to one minute, with a watermark, one custom video avatar and one voice clone. Creator costs $29 billed monthly or $24 a month billed yearly and includes 600 credits; Pro costs $49 or $41 with 1,000 credits and 4K export; Business costs $149 or $119 plus $20 per seat, with 1,500 credits and videos up to 60 minutes.
The credits are what make HeyGen hard to budget. Its help centre lists 4 credits per minute of video for Avatar III, 31 for Avatar IV and 48 for the newest model, Avatar V. The same 600 Creator credits therefore buy anywhere from about 12 to 150 minutes, depending on which avatar you choose. A screen recorder is listed on every plan, and an integration with Trupeer puts a HeyGen presenter in front of a recording made in Trupeer; it needs a paid HeyGen plan and an API key. The API itself is pay-as-you-go from $5, with no subscription.

Synthesia
The closest like-for-like alternative, with a more conventional plan structure. The free Basic plan includes 10 minutes of video a month and nine avatars, with a watermark and no MP4 download. Starter costs $29 billed monthly or $18 a month yearly, with 125+ avatars and three personal avatars; Pro costs $89 or $64 and is the first plan with API access. Since October 1, 2026, Synthesia also counts usage in credits, at about 100 credits per minute of video. It supports 140+ languages. Its free AI Screen Recorder, a browser extension, records up to 60 minutes and turns your voice into an editable script. A personal avatar needs one continuous take of one to five minutes and a consent video recorded live. Our Synthesia alternatives guide covers it in more detail.
Colossyan
Built for training teams: 120+ languages and a browser screen recorder that lets you add narration or an AI avatar alongside what you capture. The free plan includes 20 minutes a month on the standard avatar model, with a watermark. Professional costs $89 billed monthly or $59 yearly, removes the watermark and includes 360 API minutes a year; extra seats cost $45 or $30. An instant custom avatar needs between 20 seconds and five minutes of video and explicit consent.
DeepBrain AI Studios
The largest catalogue here, with more than 2,000 AI avatars and 150+ languages on paid plans. The free plan allows three videos of up to one minute at 720p. Personal costs $29 monthly or $24 yearly, with unlimited videos of up to 30 minutes at 1080p and three custom avatars. The screen recorder is limited on the free plan, and adding an avatar to a recording is a paid feature. API access is reserved for the Enterprise plan.
Elai.io
A lower-cost platform with 80+ avatars, 75+ languages and a screen recorder on every plan. Creator costs $29 monthly or $23 a month billed annually for 15 minutes a month, and unusually includes API access at that price. The free plan is one minute a month. Custom avatars are paid add-ons, from $199 a year for a selfie avatar.
D-ID
Talking-head avatar videos with API access on every plan. There is no free plan, only a 14-day trial with three minutes and a full-screen watermark. Lite, from $5.90 a month, is for personal use and keeps a watermark; commercial use starts with Pro at $29 monthly or $15.95 a month billed annually, for 15 minutes a month. Standalone API plans start at $18 a month. D-ID has no screen recorder, so a product demo means compositing the avatar over your footage elsewhere.
Vyond
An animation tool first: characters, scenes and motion, with 1,300+ AI avatars and translation into 95 languages. Every plan includes screen and webcam recording, and its Dual Video feature puts an avatar beside a screen recording. There is no free plan. Starter costs $99 billed monthly or $699 a year, about $58 a month.
Creatify
Built for ad videos with AI avatars. Its split-screen tool puts an avatar on one side, narrating footage you upload on the other. The free plan includes 10 credits a month, about two videos, with a watermark. Standard costs $15 monthly or $12 billed annually; Pro costs $55 or $44 and allows videos up to ten minutes. It supports 75+ languages and sells a separate API from $99 a month.
Tavus
Not an editor but APIs for real-time conversational video and video generation, aimed at developers who want avatars inside their own product. The free tier includes 20 minutes of conversational video with a watermark; Starter costs $22 a month and Builder $59. A custom face needs a two-minute video.
Names you will see on other lists
Hedra now presents itself as a platform for running visual AI models rather than a presenter tool, and Argil as a video studio for teams and agents. Captions, Mirage’s video app, offers an AI Twin made from a few seconds of footage, but its plans are built around a phone app. Hour One was acquired by Wix in May 2025. All of them can produce a talking presenter; none is designed around a screen recording of software.
The question avatar tools leave open
Every tool above makes the presenter. What sits behind the presenter in a SaaS demo, your product working, is a recording someone makes and edits. That recording is also the part that goes stale: when your interface changes, the avatar still says the right words over the wrong screens, and someone records the product again.
Redemo: the footage is the product
Redemo does the filming. You give it the address of your app, a short brief and, if the script needs it, a demo account. You approve a 90-second script, a browser films each scene in your live product, and an AI presenter narrates it over that footage. You can enable automatic updates per video: when we detect a release and the approved path still works, the same script is filmed and published again within your monthly allowance, and an earlier version can be restored in one click.
It does far less than HeyGen in other directions. Standard presenters speak English only, there is no avatar catalogue or translation, and a presenter with your own face and voice is a pilot whose availability you confirm with us before subscribing. It costs a flat $49 per site per month, with several videos per site and a monthly allowance of video updates rather than credits per minute. See how it works.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a free alternative to HeyGen?
Several have free plans with a watermark: Synthesia includes 10 minutes a month without MP4 download, Colossyan 20 minutes a month on its standard avatar model, DeepBrain AI Studios three one-minute videos at 720p, Creatify about two videos a month and Elai.io one minute (October 2026).
How many minutes of video does HeyGen Creator include?
Creator includes 600 credits a month. HeyGen lists 4 credits per minute for Avatar III, 31 for Avatar IV and 48 for Avatar V, so the plan covers about 12 to 150 minutes depending on the avatar model.
Is Synthesia better than HeyGen?
For most teams they are close. HeyGen lists more languages (175+ against 140+) and a pay-as-you-go API; Synthesia has a cheaper annual Starter plan and a free screen recorder. For a SaaS product demo, both put a presenter in front of a recording you make yourself.
Can HeyGen make a product demo video?
It puts an AI presenter in front of screens you supply: screenshots, a screen recording, slides or a PDF. Its product demo page says that workflow has no built-in recorder, and an integration with Trupeer covers the recording. When your interface changes, you supply the new screens.
