Synthesia alternatives for SaaS product demo videos (2026)

By Stéphane Rathgeber · · 9 min

HeyGen is the closest all-round alternative to Synthesia, Colossyan the closest for training teams, and Vyond the pick for animated explainers. None of them films your product: you record the screen yourself and the avatar presents over it. If real footage of your live app is the point of the video, a tool that films the product for you, like Redemo, solves a different problem.

Synthesia turns a script into a video presented by an AI avatar, in more than 140 languages, and it is very good at it. Training modules, internal announcements and localised explainers are its home ground. A SaaS product demo raises a question the avatar does not answer: what is on screen behind the presenter? The viewer wants to see your product working, and in every tool on this list, that footage is something you record yourself.

Below are the alternatives worth considering, with plans and limits checked on each vendor's own pages on October 7, 2026, and an honest note on how each one handles your product's interface. For a head-to-head on the two best-known names, see Redemo vs Synthesia vs HeyGen.

Synthesia in 2026, for reference

Synthesia's free Basic plan includes 10 minutes of video a month, 9 avatars and a watermark, without MP4 download. Starter costs $29 a month billed monthly or $18 billed yearly, with 125+ avatars and three personal avatars. Pro costs $89 monthly or $64 yearly and is the first plan with API access. Personal avatars need a continuous take of one to five minutes and a recorded consent. Its free AI Screen Recorder, a browser extension, records your screen, turns your voice into an editable script and lets you choose an AI avatar for the video.

HeyGen

The closest all-round alternative: avatar videos from text, a photo or audio, voice and avatar cloning, translation with lip-sync and a public API. The free plan allows three videos a month of up to one minute, with a watermark. Creator costs $29 monthly or $24 a month billed yearly and includes 600 credits. How far those credits go depends on the avatar model: HeyGen's help centre lists 4 credits per minute for Avatar III, 31 for Avatar IV and 48 for the newer Avatar V, so the same plan covers anywhere from about 12 to 150 minutes. Paid plans support 175 languages and dialects. A screen recorder is included on every plan, and an integration with Trupeer turns a screen recording into an avatar-narrated product video. The API is pay-as-you-go from $5, with no subscription required.

Colossyan

Built for training teams, and it shows: 300+ stock avatars, 120+ languages with lip-sync, and a screen recorder in the browser that lets you add narration or an avatar over what you capture. The free Starter plan includes 20 minutes a month on its standard avatar model, with a watermark. Professional costs $89 monthly or $59 a month billed yearly, removes the watermark and includes 360 API minutes a year. An instant custom avatar needs between 20 seconds and 5 minutes of video and explicit consent.

Elai.io

A lower-cost avatar platform with 80+ avatars, 75+ languages and a built-in screen recorder. Its feature page does not say whether the avatar can sit over the recording. The free plan is one minute a month. Creator costs $29 monthly or $23 a month billed annually for 15 minutes a month, and unusually includes API access at that price. Custom avatars are paid add-ons, from $199 a year for a selfie avatar.

D-ID

D-ID generates talking-head avatar videos and includes API access on every plan. There is no permanent free plan, only a 14-day trial with three minutes and a full-screen watermark. Lite is the cheapest at $5.90 monthly or $4.70 annually, but it carries a watermark and a personal-use licence; commercial use starts with Pro at $29 monthly or $15.95 annually for 15 minutes a month. D-ID has no screen recorder, so a product demo means compositing elsewhere.

DeepBrain AI Studios

AI Studios offers the largest catalogue here, with more than 2,000 AI-generated avatars and 150+ languages on paid plans. The free plan allows three videos of up to one minute at 720p. Personal costs $29 monthly or $24 yearly, with videos up to 30 minutes and three custom avatars. The screen recorder is limited on the free plan and included on paid ones. API access is reserved for the Enterprise plan.

Vyond

Vyond is an animation tool first: characters, scenes and motion, now with 1,300+ AI avatars and voices in 95 languages. Every plan from Starter includes screen and webcam recording, and its Dual Video feature combines an avatar with a screen recording, which Vyond itself pitches for product demos. There is no free plan. Starter costs $99 billed monthly or $699 a year, which works out to about $58 a month.

Tavus

Tavus is not an editor but a set of APIs for real-time conversational video and video generation, aimed at developers who want avatars inside their own product. The free tier includes 20 minutes of conversational video with a watermark; Starter costs $22 a month for 60 minutes of conversational video and 5 of video generation, and Builder $59. For a demo video you would have to build the rest of the pipeline yourself.

A note on tools you will see on other lists

Hour One still appears in many comparisons, but Wix announced its acquisition in May 2025. Synthesys has repositioned around ad videos, and invideo AI is a generative video tool without screen recording; neither is a natural fit for a product demo.

Redemo: the same presenter, different footage

Every tool above can put an AI presenter in front of a screen recording, as long as someone records the screen. That recording is also the part that goes stale: when your interface changes, the avatar still says the right words over the wrong screens.

Redemo does the filming. You give it the address of your app, a short brief and, if the script needs it, a demo account. You approve the script, a browser films each scene in your live product, and an AI presenter narrates it over that footage. You can enable automatic updates per video: when we detect a release and the approved path still works, the same script is filmed and published again within your monthly allowance, and an earlier version can be restored in one click.

It does less than an avatar platform in other directions. Standard presenters speak English only, there is no catalogue of hundreds of avatars, and a presenter with your own face and voice is a pilot whose availability you confirm with us before subscribing. It is built for one job, a demo of a web app, from $49 per site per month with several videos per site. See how it works.

How to choose

  • You want Synthesia's scope with more avatars and languages: HeyGen.
  • You produce training content at volume: Colossyan.
  • You need an API without an enterprise contract: Elai.io or HeyGen's pay-as-you-go API.
  • The video is an animated explainer, not a product walkthrough: Vyond.
  • You are building avatars into your own app: Tavus.
  • The point of the video is your product's real interface, and it changes often: Redemo.

If HeyGen is the tool you are weighing, our HeyGen alternatives guide compares it with the same platforms, credits included. If you would rather record yourself and skip the avatar, our Loom alternatives guide covers screen recorders, and our category guide compares the main demo video approaches side by side.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free alternative to Synthesia?

Several have free plans with watermarks: HeyGen allows three videos a month of up to one minute, Colossyan 20 minutes a month on its standard avatar model, DeepBrain AI Studios three one-minute videos at 720p, and Elai.io one minute a month. Synthesia's own Basic plan is also free, with 10 minutes a month and no MP4 download.

Can Synthesia or HeyGen show my product's interface?

Yes, if you record it. Both include a screen recorder, and the avatar presents over or beside your recording. Neither captures your product for you, so when the interface changes, the recording has to be made again.

Which Synthesia alternative supports the most languages?

Among the tools checked, HeyGen lists 175 languages and dialects on paid plans, DeepBrain AI Studios 150+, Synthesia 140+, and Colossyan 120+.

What happened to Hour One?

Wix announced the acquisition of Hour One in May 2025, to expand its own generative AI capabilities. Check that it is still sold on its own before putting it on a shortlist.
